I'm Waltham Pitglow and I am an independent training and compliance specialist. I cover the most relevant and up to date insurance hot topics and for those who would like some structure to their CPD (or for your staff) then I will be suggesting some learning points and/or exercises that can be logged on your files.

Role Plays
Waltham Pitglow - RWA Compliance Specialist

I used to snigger when training companies used to talk about role plays, but as the 1990s rolled on I realised that in fact this form of competence assessment had some great advantages.
- It is vital that we assess the application of knowledge. We cannot do that without watching someone doing the job and if that involves a client this can be rather embarrassing and counter productive. A good role play session allows teaching and coaching to turn the event into a learning exercise and from the feedback we are getting there is a lot of fun to be had as well.
- It is cost efficient. Your RWA consultant will be happy to help you with the process as part of the service during your allocated visits.
- It can be recorded. Unlike a live meeting with a client, a role play allows the event to be recorded (simply into a computer is the easiest way), which provides a good record if anyone asks. You can now buy a professional standard desk microphone which plugs into a USB slot for under £50.
- It is FSA encouraged. Part of the RWA Supervisor Training involves learning how to conduct role plays. The FSA wants to know that you are confident that you and your staff can do the job competently and compliantly. You will find that once you get over the initial suspicion that it is a good idea that saves you time and money
Speak to the helpdesk or your RWA consultant for more help, particularly to plan your assessments and what goes into them.
